Iowa Loses Almost 700 Wind Blade Manufacturing Jobs Due to Plant Closure

Unemployment claims will be on the rise in Iowa soon as Jasper County’s largest employer will be down to nearly 50 employees.

TPI Composites, a wind blade manufacturer based in Arizona, is in the process of winding down its turbine manufacturing operations in Newton, Iowa. In an announcement made in October, the company indicated that it was forced to cut approximately 700 jobs after General Electric Co. decided it will no longer buy blades produced in Iowa.

A recent job fair brought more than 100 companies together to help the displaced workers find new jobs.

The 50 remaining employees work in TPI’s field services operation.
