Oklahoma congressman Markwayne Mullin and others on the House Energy and Commerce Committee will have a chance this week to question Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm about her agency’s budget.

She will go before the committee on Wednesday to talk about the Energy Department’s fiscal 2022 budget request. How much money are we talking about?  The Biden administration wants $46.1 billion for the DOE with a heavy focus on climate change needs.

In early May, Granholm said her department’s request “offers the major investments we need to tackle the climate crisis” claiming it would also create millions of good-paying, union jobs.

The budget includes nearly $2 billion for a Building Clean Energy Projects and Workforce Initiative to push carbon free electricity by 2035. At least $8 billion is targeted to quadruple clean energy research within four years.

The budget will likely not be the only thing committee members want to discuss. She will probably be asked about the hack of the Colonial Pipeline. It’s certainly something that Republicans on the House Science Committee have asked to be briefed about.
