Rig Count Remains Flat

Rig counts released by Baker Hughes Co. and research firm Enverus show the national rig count fell by one this week to 438.

As of this past week, the number of oil drilling rigs in the field was 343, the gas rig count stood at 94 with one identified as miscellaneous.

Oklahoma maintains 21 active rigs in play, an increase of one more than the count of 20 reported a year ago.

Texas still has the highest rig activity at 211 rigs, down three over the past week’s report. Last year, Texas had 231 rigs, down 20 from a year ago. New Mexico added one rig to reach 71.

Colorado was unchanged at 10 rigs and Louisiana stayed at 47. According to the Redtop Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita, the total number of active drilling rigs in Kansas was up by two units this week to 22. A month ago, there were 20 active rigs. This same time a year ago, only 4 rotary rigs were active in Kansas.

North Dakota was unchanged at 15 rigs and Ohio’s count remained at 10 rigs. Pennsylvania remained steady at 18 rigs.

West Virginia’s count stayed at 11 and Wyoming was unchanged at four.

The Permian lost one rig to reach 226 drilling rigs.
