Absentee voting favored Hiett by a margin of 152,616 to 91,826 while early voting went 116,969 for Hiett and 36,797 for Hagopian. Election day voting saw Hiett pick up an overwhelming 828,976 votes compared to Hagopian’s 216,379.

Hiett joined the Corporation Commission in 2015 after winning the July 2014 GOP runoff election and his current term was to expire in January 2021. His new six-year term will begin in 2021 and end in 2027.

Hiett previously was a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1994 to 2006. He was also Speaker of the House from 2004 to 2006.

In the summer of 2014, Hiett, a Kellyville farmer and rancher defeated Oklahoma City state Sen. Cliff Branan in the GOP primary and since there was no Democrat or independent candidate, he won the race. At the time, Commissioner Patrice Douglas of Edmond did not seek re-election because she ran for Congress.
