Tulsa State Fair called off due to coronavirus pandemic

Add the Tulsa State Fair to the list of events falling victim to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tulsa County Public Facilities Authority voted 5-0 on Tuesday to cancel the Tulsa State Fair because of concerns related to the pandemic. It was scheduled to be held Oct. 1 through Oct. 11. However, it will move ahead with a youth livestock show.

Officials said this will impact the Midway portion of the fair. Other possible options are still being considered for the livestock and Made In Oklahoma portions of the fair.

Tulsa County officials said after working on modified plans and then talking and meeting with health officials, they decided the best way to keep people safe was to cancel the fair this year.

County Commissioner Karen Keith said they will be working on a modified plan to allow the youth livestock show, which is not open to the public reported KOTV News.

This cancellation comes after multiple state fairs in the U.S. were also canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which includes the Oklahoma State Fair and the State Fair of Texas.

The Oklahoma State Fair was canceled on June 26th. However, officials said they will host a Fair Food To-Go Event Aug. 20 to 23 at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds.

The State Fair of Texas was cancelled on July 7th, and it said if football is being played in the fall, the schools will be playing in the Cotton Bowl as scheduled, despite the cancellation of the 2020 state fair.

The Kansas State Fair was originally going to be held but the fair board took a second vote following the cancellation of the Texas State Fair and joined in calling off events this year.
