Frac fire in Permian Basin under investigation

Houston’s Keane Group is still estimating damage caused by a July 1 fire that damaged one of its hydraulic frac fleet operating in the Permian Basin near Odessa, Texas.

The company issued a statement indicating the expense of replacing the damaged equipment is expected to be covered by the company’s insurance program.

The fire happened at the Trican Frac yard and heavy black smoke could be seen for miles. Midland County Fire Marshal Dale Little indicated three tanker trucks and oil-related chemicals were involved in the fire off Interstate 20. There’s still no word what caused the fire.

Chairman and CEO James Stewart indicated none of the workers at the site were hurt.

“The safety and well-being of our employees, business partners and members of the communities in which we operate is always a top priority for Keane,” he said. “Above all, we are thankful that no injuries resulted from the incident, and we are proud of the responsiveness displayed by the team, executing on our well-defined safety protocol. “
