Rig Counts Remain Steady in Oklahoma and the U.S.

Drilling activity in the U.S. and Oklahoma held steady over the past week with the national count increasing by only one to reach 1,046 rigs. Oklahoma’s count remained the same as last weeks at 138 active oil and gas rigs.

Figures from Baker Hughes Co. and the Independent Oil and Gas Association show the U.S. count this week stands at 844 oil rigs and 200 gas rigs. The current  national count shows an increase of 145 rigs compared to one year ago and that includes an additional 124 oil rigs and 20 more gas rigs.

In Canada this week,  the count is at 83, an increase of four.

Oklahoma’s count of 138 working oil and gas rigs compares to  525 in Texas where the count increased by 2 this week. New Mexico added 3 working rigs to reach 92 while the count in  Kansas slipped by one to reach 41.

Colorado fell by one to 29 and Louisiana slipped by one to hit 61. In North Dakota, the count dropped one to reach 55.

Of the oil plays, the Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico outdid all others and added 4 rigs to reach 467. The Eagle Ford in south Texas slipped by one to 77. The Granite Wash in western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle added one to reach 14. The Mississippian dropped one to reach 4. The D-J Niobrara in Colorado remained at 24 while the Woodfords in Oklahoma stayed at eleven.
