Contractors applaud additional revenue for legislature

The leaders of a contractors group in Oklahoma are excited after the State Equalization Board certified a $612 million increase in appropriations for the legislature’s 2019 session.

“The Association of Oklahoma General Contractors is elated to hear news of Oklahoma’s rebounding economy and record-setting revenue,” said Bobby Stem, Executive Director.

In a statement issued over the weekend, Stem also made it clear his organization would not be seeking additional funding in 2019.

” We feel the new surplus should be used to help shore up the other core functions of our state government with more pressing needs. Education, corrections and health care are currently facing issues that must be addressed to ensure that we build and maintain our state’s most important resource – our people,” said Stem.
“We are grateful to the legislature for keeping their promise to emphasize the importance of investing in our infrastructure even through the recent lean years. If our state is strong – in all areas – then we are confident infrastructure spending will grow to match it.”
