Oklahoma says farewell to the drought

Thanks to the continuing rainfall, very little of Oklahoma is experiencing dry conditions and the state is free of any reported drought conditions.

Gone are the dry and dusty roads. Instead energy workers in the state are dealing with muddy roads as they travel to wind farms, well sites and electrical repair sites.

The latest Drought Monitor shows only about 8 percent of the state is listed as “abnormally dry” and most of it is in the northeast corner. The extreme western reaches of the Panhandle are also in the same category. But it’s an improvement from last week when nearly 9 percent was “abnormally dry.”

Only about 2 percent is in the “moderate drought” category, down slightly from a week ago.

And there are no parts of the state in the three worst categories of severe, extreme and exceptional drought.
