
A deeper look into the latest numbers from the Baker Hughes Rig Count shows that while the national count fell by two in the past week, activity remained steady in Oklahoma.
The state’s count of 42 rigs was the same as the previous week and a review of where they were drilling was unchanged. The Cana Woodford continued as the most active oil and gas play in Oklahoma with a count of 21 rigs.
It was followed by drilling in the Granite Wash where the rig count was 16, based on the Baker Hughes release. The number was the same as a week earlier.
Drilling in the Ardmore Woodford remained at only one rig and the Arkoma Woodford had the same count of one rig as the previous week. There is still no drilling activity to report in the Mississippian play.
Drilling in other oil & gas plays
The Permian Basin was unchanged at 242 rigs. The Haynesville, covering East Texas and Louisiana, declined by one rig to 55. The Williston in the northern part of central U.S. remained at 28 rigs.
In South Texas, the Eagle Ford count dropped by one to 42 rigs. The Marcellus play remained at 25 rigs and the Utica play continued with a count of 12 rigs. The D-J Basin in southern Wyoming and northern Colorado was unchanged with 9 active rigs.
