The damage to six Oklahoma turnpike bridges from an illegal load carried by a trucker last month totaled nearly $500,000 and this week the Turnpike Authority approved the repair costs.
The governing board of the Authority approved spending $491,700 to Built-Right Construction, the firm that carried out the emergency repairs to the six bridges after they were struck by the over-sized load on December 16. The damage occurred to the overpasses near Claremore in Rogers and Mayes counties.
βThe bridges sustained significant damage to multiple beams in the eastbound direction,β according to OTA reported Oklahoma Voice.
Joe Echelle, OTA executive director, said the emergency repairs were completed within a week of the accident, and the bridges are now open and structurally sound.
