Oklahoma’s no-renewable energy legislative fights set the stage for the One Big Beautiful bill debate

While the renewable energy industry managed to avoid some major hits in the Oklahoma legislative session, one renewable energy official says it won’t end in the 2026 legislature or following sessions.

Kylah McNabb, an independent consultant who leads the Oklahoma Renewable Energy Council said the political environment means the industry can expect anti-wind and solar bills to keep coming from some legislators.

She told E&E News, “This is a function of what you see on the national stage, with this energy dominance-type approach. But we have the case to make that Oklahoma has always had cheap energy, and part of the reason for that is that we have renewables.”

Oklahoma is among many states where the renewables face opposition. Plus, what happened in the state legislature preceded the fight in the congressional handling of President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill.
