Just like the thunderstorms that popped up almost daily in Oklahoma over the past month, there’s a new concern that the federal government will cut budgeting for the Severe Storms Laboratory at the University of Oklahoma.
Supporters fear it could mean the elimination of the office where scientists study tornadoes in an effort to understand the deadly storms. More than 200 employees are part of the office but could lose their jobs in a new budget estimate for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s office.
According to a report by StateImpact Oklahoma, the National Severe Storms Lab could be gone as quickly as a pop-corn variety thunderstorm in Oklahoma.
