With U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley on their side, Representatives in the Iowa State House voted this week to call for a special session to override Gov. Kim Reynolds’ veto of a bill to put more restrictions on proposed carbon capture pipelines in the state.
Grassley applauded the override attempt.
“This veto was a major setback for Iowa landowners and the tireless efforts of the House to safeguard property rights,” Grassley said in a press release Tuesday reported the Iowa Capital Dispatch.
Farmers and other landowners have fought Summit Carbon Solutions and the pipeline it wants to build to capture emissions from ethanol plants and eventually store it in North Dakota. The Summit pipeline proposal is one supported by Oklahoma City oilman Harold Hamm. The bill vetoed by Gov. Reynolds proposed restrictions on the use of eminent domain by the pipeline builder.
