Reports suggest Continental Resources is expanding its exploration operations throughout Wyoming’s Powder River Basin where one executive with the Oklahoma City company says the goal is to turn it into the next Williston Basin.
It was the Williston where Continental founder Harold Hamm made his fortune and turned the oil and gas company into a major operator in North Dakota. However, with the U.S. Energy Department predicting double-digit production growth in the Powder River this year, Continental wants to take advantage of it.
Nearly three years after Continental went from being a publicly traded company to total private ownership by Hamm, the company believes it can move quicker in taking advantage of oil rich opportunities such as those forecasted in the Powder River Basin.
