A proposed 5,000-well oil and gas drilling project in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin has been approved by the federal Bureau of Land Management.

The BLM signed off on the Converse County project, indicating there would be no significant impacts to groundwater resources. The agency added the project, covering 1.5 million acres, could generate up to $28 billion in federal revenues and also create nearly 8,000 jobs.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. was one of the supporters of the project.
