Only two oil plays in the U.S. saw increased drilling activity in the past week and both were in Oklahoma.
The latest Baker Hughes rig count, closely followed across the country, showed gains in rig counts in the Cana Woodford and the Granite Wash. Both are in the western part of Oklahoma.
The Cana Woodford showed a gain of 3 to reach 21 oil and gas rigs and the Granite Wash added the same number to reach 16. The state’s other oil and gas plays remained unchanged. The Ardmore Woodford continued with a count of 5 rigs and the Arkoma Woodford saw no change with 2 rigs. The Mississippian went another week with no reported drilling activity, based on the Baker Hughes rig count.
The nation’s most prolific play, the Permian Basin recorded a decline of 2 to 285 rigs. The Williston continued with 33 rigs.
The Eagle Ford was unchanged at 46. The count in the Haynesville remained at 33 and the Marcellus continued with a count of 25 rigs.
The Utica stayed at 10 rigs. The Barnett remained at 2 and the D-J Basin count slipped by one to 5 rigs.
