US sees gain in oil rigs but loss in gas rigs

While the number of active oil and gas rigs in Oklahoma held steady over the past week, the latest Baker Hughes Co. rig count showed a decline nationwide.

Oklahoma’s count was unchanged at 53 rigs, 9 more than a year ago at this time.

The nation’s count fell by two to 590 rigs. But the U.S. also saw a gain of 5 oil rigs for a total count of 489 while the decline was registered in the number of gas rigs. The gas rig count fell by 7 to 196. The number of miscellaneous rigs was unchanged at 5 and the offshore rig count remained at 14.

The U.S. count is 30 fewer than a year ago when Baker Hughes reported 620 active rig. The number of oil rigs in the past year fell 19 while the gas rig decline was 14. The miscellaneous rig count grew by 3.

Texas saw a decline of 3 rigs to 277. New Mexico saw no change at 101 and North Dakota continued with 32. Colorado stayed at 8 and the Red Top Rig Report showed Kansas was unchanged with 23 rigs.

Ohio remained at 10 rigs and Pennsylvania gained one to reach 15. Utah stayed at 12 and West Virginia had no change with 11 rigs. Wyoming’s count of 21 was unchanged. California remained at 8 rigs and Alaska’s count of 10 rigs was the same as the previous week.
