The nation saw a slight gain in the number of active oil and gas rigs in the past week while numbers in Oklahoma were steady, according to the latest Baker Hughes rig count.
Oklahoma saw no change with a count of 53 rigs, same as last week, but 8 more than one year ago when the count was 45.
The U.S. saw a gain of 2 to reach 585 total rigs including an increase of one oil rig for a total of 481 oil rigs and one more gas rig for a total of 98 gas rigs. The number of miscellaneous rigs was unchanged at 6.
The US count is still 34 below last year’s count of 619. The drop included a loss of 30 oil rigs and 8 gas rigs while miscellaneous numbers grew by four. The nation’s offshore rig count was unchanged at 13 in the past week but 7 fewer than a year ago.
Texas remained at 270 rigs and New Mexico continued with 100 rigs. North Dakota stayed at 32 and Louisiana had no change with 30 rigs.
The Red Top Rig Report showed Kansas added 2 for a total of 24 rigs. Ohio added 2 as well to reach 12. Pennsylvania added 2 to hit 18 rigs. Utah remained at 12 while West Virginia’s count fell one to 8.
Wyoming saw no change with a count of 21. Alaska continued with 10 and the count in California fell one to 5 rigs.
