Another leader of a Colorado-based oil and gas industry group has been chosen by President Donald Trump to head the Bureau of Land Management.
Kathleen Sgamma, president of the Western Energy Alliance, was appointed BLM director, an agency that manages a quarter-billion acres of public land. She has been president of the Energy Alliance since 2006 and was considered a leading voice for the fossil fuel industry and advocated fewer drilling restrictions on public lands.
The Energy Alliance represents nearly 200 companies although the total is not publicly confirmed by the group because it keeps its membership hidden.
Together with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Sgamma, if confirmed by the U.S. Senate, would be a principal player in carrying out Trump’s “Drill, baby drill” agenda. In her role as BLM Director, she would also be an administrator in direct contrast to Tracey Stone-Manning who led the BLM under the Biden administration and carried out programs opposed by Republicans in Congress.
Sgamma was recently interviewed on Colorado Public Radio and said she believes her duties under the Trump administration would be to return things to regular order.
