Oklahoma saw a gain of one rig in the past week, according to the latest oil and gas rig count provided by Baker Hughes Co.
Despite frigid winter weather in the state, the number moved up to a total of 44 oil and gas drilling rigs in the various energy plays. A year ago, the rig count in Oklahoma was 42.
Nationally, the rig count increased by 2 to 588, according to Baker Hughes. The count included a gain of one oil rig for a total of 481 oil rigs while the number of gas rigs also increased by one, reaching a total of 101. The number of miscellaneous rigs was unchanged at 6.
The U.S. count is 33 fewer than a year ago when the total rig count was 621. In the past year, the nation saw a decline of 16 oil rigs and 20 gas rigs while the number of miscellanous rigs grew by 3. The U.S. offshore rig count was unchanged in the past week at 14.
Texas saw a gain of 2 rigs to reach 280. New Mexico was unchanged at 106. North Dakota’s count slipped by one to 32 and Louisiana also recorded a decline of one rig, leaving 30 for the total.
Colorado stayed at 9 rigs. The Red Top Rig Report showed Kansas had a rig count of 15 which was unchanged from the previous week. Ohio remained at 9 rigs and Pennsylvania had no change with 15. Utah’s count grew one to 13. West Virginia remained at 10 and Wyoming’s count of 20 was unchanged from the prior week.
