Facebook’s parent company Meta isn’t stopping at a recent agreement to get electrical power from an Oklahoma wind farm in its data center growth across the U.S.
Meta now intends to build a large data center in Louisiana, powering it with a 10,000-acre solar farm, three natural gas turbines and 100 miles of new transmission lines.
Earlier this month, the giant firm reached an agreement to purchase 115-megawatt part of the Rockhaven wind farm in Murray and Carter counties in southern Oklahoma. Enel North America owns the 140 MW wind farm and the recent deal is the third such power purchase agreement with Meta.
“We are thrilled to again partner with Enel to bring renewable energy to the grid,” said Urvi Parekh, Global Head of Energy, Meta. “These projects support our regional operations and data centers, as well as our goal to match our electric usage with 100% clean and renewable energy.”
Enel has other power agreements with Meta at some of its other wind farms including one in Nebraska to support the Sarpy Data Center. Another agreement involves an Illinois wind farm that supplies power to Meta’s DeKalb Data Center.
As reported by WVUE TV in New Orleans, Meta announced plans to build a $10 billion AI data center east of Monroe in the northeast part of the state and it is expected to be operational by 2030. It will reportedly be the largest of more than 20 such Meta data centers acrossthe world.
To provide the power, Entergy Louisiana intends to invest $6 billion in electric infrastructure.
