Oklahoma’s Cana Woodford only play to see gain in rig count

Only one of the nation’s oil and gas plays saw a change in the number of its active rigs, according to the most recent rig report from Baker Hughes Co.

The Cana Woodford, located in Oklahoma, added one rig to reach a total of 21. The remainder of the leading oil and gas plays saw no changes, at least based on the Baker Hughes report.

The Permian Basin continued with 304 rigs dotting the landscape throughout West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. The Williston in North Dakota, Montana and Canada was unchanged at 37 while the Eagle Ford in South Texas saw no change with 45 active rigs.

The Haynesville remained at 31. The Ardmore Woodford continued another week with no reported drilling activity, according to Baker Hughes. The Arkoma Woodford’s count continued at only one rig for another week.

The Barnett play in North Texas continued with 2 rigs. The D-J Basin in Colorado and southern Wyoming stayed at 7. The Granite Wash count remained at 8 and the Mississippian stayed at one rig. The Utica play stayed at 10 rigs.

According to the Baker Hughes report, the U.S. breakdown of the kinds of rigs included 527 horizontal, 49 directional and 13 vertical.
