Oklahoma started off 2025 with gasoline prices averaging $2.57 a gallon, a dime cheaper than one year ago.
The American Automobile Association cited the average, saying it was the same price on the last day of 2024, a dime more than a month ago and ten cents cheaper than one year ago.
However, according to GasBuddy, prices at several Oklahoma City locations pumped gas on New Year’s Day at $2.19 per gallon while the cheapest price was $2.18 at a site in Newcastle. The Oklahoma City locations included Walmart, Sam’s Club, eExpress, Costco, Murphy USA, Love’s Country Stories and Domino.
AAA showed the average price in Oklahoma City was $2.48 per gallon, 9 cents lower than one year ago. Tulsa’s average was $2.65, a penny lower than one year earlier. In Lawton, the New Year’s Day average price was $2.55, 25 cents cheaper than on New Year’s Day 2024.
Bryan County, home to Durant, had the lowest average in the state at $2.43 per gallon, but by only one cent compared to the $2.44 average in Canadian County. Oklahoma County’s average was $2.45, same as in Cleveland County.
Highest average? Coal County in the southeast with an average of $3.07 per gallon. Other high averages were in the northwest and the Panhandle including Cimarron County at $2.91 and Woods County at $2.90.
Oklahoma’s average of $2.57 was the lowest in the state average in the region. Adjacent states included Kansas at $2.67, Texas $2.66, Arkansas $2.68, Missouri $2.72, New Mexico $2.85 and Colorado $2.93.
AAA believes prices will remain steady for the foreseeable future.
“We could be heading into a period of relative stability when it comes to pump prices,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “Despite some reports to the contrary, the national average never fell below $3 this year.”
