The Biden administration’s Environmental Protection Agency just implemented another restrictive rule on the oil and gas industry—a fee for flaring.
The EPA took the final steps in its crackdown on methane leaks and did so as part of the Inflation Reduction Act. It is considered to be a move that will make it more difficult for the incoming Trump administration to remove.
CNN reported the new rule will create charges or fees for oil and gas producers who waste methane by venting or flaring it rather than capturing it.
