Oklahoma set to launch another rural broadband expansion project

Another broadband expansion project will officially be launched in Oklahoma in the coming week as the state uses hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding to bring the internet to rural areas.

The Oklahoma Broadband Office announced it will begin an expansion project with ecoLINK fiber services to improve access to high-speed internet service in Creek County.

A formal launching ceremony will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 1:30 pm. in the small community of Slick and include leaders of the Broadband Board and office, legislators and community representatives.

The list includes Jim Meek, Chair of the Oklahoma Broadband Governing Board; Mike Sanders, executive director of the Oklahoma Broadband Office; House Speaker Pro Tempore Kyle Hilbert of Bristow; Tim Smith, CEO of ecoLINK/East Central Electric Cooperative; and other legislative and community leaders.

The project is one of more than 125 funded by the ARPA State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund that will improve high-speed internet access throughout the state, but especially in rural Oklahoma. This first grant program administered by the Oklahoma Broadband Office will connect some 50,000 homes and businesses in 55 of the state’s 77 counties.
