The president’s senior climate advisor is praising the country’s increasing domestic gas output.
Rigzone.com notes the surprising supportive statement from John Podesta.
The US is now the world’s top oil producer, pumping half-again as much crude as Saudi Arabia. Podesta says, “That’s good for the American consumer and good for national security.”
Podesta made the comments during a panel discussion hosted by the Covering Climate Now journalism organization. He says more needs to be done to reduce emissions, but also notes that gas prices are down.
The country’s chief representative in global climate talks points out that gas prices are under three dollars a gallon in 14 of the 50 states.
