Oil prices hit 8 month low on Friday while OK energy stocks tumbled

Not only did crude oil prices fall Friday to their lowest levels since January, but Oklahoma energy stocks also tumbled, some as much as 7%.

The crude price drop came after the U.S. economy added fewer jobs than expected in July and unemployment rose.

West Texas Intermediate, the US benchmark, dropped $2.79 r 3.66% per barrel at $73.52 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Brent crude finished down $2.71 or 3.41% to $76.81 barrel on ICE Futures Europe.

At one point during the Friday trading, both benchmarks fell by more than $3 a barrel.

September natural gas was unchanged at $1.97 per 1,000 cubic feet.

A tough, tough day Friday for Oklahoma energy stocks as most experienced losses. For example, Empire Petroleum dropped 7% and Helmerich & Payne along with NGL Energy Partners each 6%.

Other energy stocks suffered as well, according to the Texas Energy Report.

Exxon Mobil (XOM) down 0.08 at 116.88 – change 0.06%

Kinder Morgan (KMI) down 0.39 at 20.68 – change 1.86%

Marathon Oil Corp. (MRO) down 0.76 at 26.65 – change 2.78%

NOV Inc. (NOV) down 0.91 at 18.69 – change 4.65%

Occidental Petroleum (OXY) down 1.71 at 57.67 – change 2.88%

Phillips 66 (PSX) down 7.19 at 133.76 – change 5.11%

Tellurian Inc. (TELL) down 0.02 at 0.91 – change 1.97%

Valero (VLO) down 7.89 at 148.56 – change 5.05%
