Houston restaurants sue CenterPoint Energy over Hurricane power restoration

Fed up with the lack of electricity following Hurricane Beryl, some Houston restaurants have banded together to file suit against CenterPoint Energy.

The company is currently being assisted by 105 line workers from Oklahoma Gas and Electric in restoring power to the Houston area, but a few hundred thousand are still without electricity.

The lawsuit accuses CenterPoint Energy Inc. of failing to adequately invest in infrastructure and respond to widespread power outages, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The restaurants want unspecified damages to cover the cost of lost profits, property damage and business interruption.  They also accused CenterPoint of failing to conduct “reasonable power restoration efforts” following the arrival of the hurricane.
