President Biden on Thursday shelled out more money for his love of electric vehicles, announcing nearly $2 billion in grants to GM, Fiat Chrysler in an aim to restart or expand their EV manufacturing.
The money also has a political intent—it’s going to EV plants in eight states considered presidential battlegrounds where Biden has been slipping since his debate debacle last month against former President Donald Trump.
The Associated Press reported the grants total $1.7 billion that will also be used to keep thousands of union jobs in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Virginia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia.
