Crude oil prices rose Thursday following a report from the US Energy Information Administration referencing a cooling job market that fueled hopes the Federal Reserve might decide to cut interest rates soon.
West Texas Intermediate Crude futures for July gained 60 cents to settle at $82.17 a barrel.
Brent crude, the global benchmark, settled up 64 cents at $85.17 a barrel. The session high of $85.89 was the highest mark since May 1st.
Crude inventories fell by 5.9 million barrels in the week to June 15th. That compares to analysts’ expectation of a decrease of 1.9 million barrels.
Only four of 23 Oklahoma energy stocks showed losses Thursday.
