Nearly 40,000 customers of utilities in Oklahoma were without power following Monday night tornadoes that danced around the state, including one that hit the northeast city of Barnsdale, killing one person.
Most of those without electrical power were customers of Oklahoma Gas and Electric. By Tuesday afternoon, crews had already restored power to 88% of the 38,000 customers who experienced outages during the extreme storms. Only 4,400 remained witout power as of 2 p.m.
OG&E anticipated power to be restored later in the afternoon to areas
- 4 p.m. : Metro west and north including Eagle City, Mustang, Yukon, Guthrie, Langston, N. OKC
- 4 p.m. : Southern part of service area including Ardmore, Dickson, Elmore City, Lone Grove
- 6 p.m. : Northeast part of service area including Bristow, Bixby, Checotah, Boynton, Muskogee, Perkins
- 10 p.m. : Northwest part of service area including Bison, Douglas, Drummond, Enid, Hennessey, Orlando, Waukomis
Public Service Company reported about 90 customers in the northeast part of the state were without power early Tuesday.
The Oklahoma Rural Electric Cooperatives Association reported more than 2,000 customers were without power. Three of the hardest hit areas were in Craig County where 552 customers of the Northeast Oklahoma Electric Cooperative did not have power as of Tuesday morning. In Osage County, 545 customers of Indian Electric Cooperative, Inc, Kay Electric Cooperative and Verdigris Valley Electric Cooperative didn’t hae electrical power.
In Adair County, 345 members of the Ozarks Electric Cooperative were listed as without electricity.
