Texas faces another possible grid emergency

ERCOT, the power grid operator in Texas warned customers they could face a potential electricity emergency this weekend.

According to the alert issued by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the grid might reach emergency conditions by Friday night and continuing through Saturday evening.

Supplies of electricity are expected to be tightest Friday evening. ERCOT indicated it will have 62.7 gigawatts of power available on Friday but the grid will shift to emergency operations when demand grows to within 2.5 gigawatts of available power.

It is the fourth time in the past few weeks the state was warned of a potential electricity emergency. A warning last week was prompted because electricity reserves dropped as wind generation dropped.
