OGE approaches 90% of power restoration after deadly tornadoes

Nearly 89 percent of Oklahoma Gas and Electric customers who lost electrical power during the weekend tornadoes that killed four persons and injured dozens of others had power restored as of mid-day Monday.

OG&E reported that 5,400 customers were still without power while about 1,200 personnel worked to restore electricity to the cities and towns affected by the severe weather. Many were sent to southern Oklahoma where tornadoes caused extreme damage and destruction in the cit of Sulphur, Marietta and Ardmore.

The utility company said about 90 percent of its storm damage assement in Ardmore and Sulphur was complete as of Monday.

“We understand how important it is for our customers to have power. Our crews have been and will continue to work around the clock until power is fully restored,” said the utility in announcing its latest update on power restoration efforts.

Estimated Times of Restoration (ETRs) are not available for Ardmore, Sulphur and parts of Holdenville, along with other southeastern cities in our service area until damage assessments are complete. Flooding, road closures and storm debris slow progress of assessments and restoration.

Once the power grid is repaired, OG&E will prioritize restoration for the community’s essential services, such as hospitals, police stations, fire departments, public works and other critical infrastructure. As those facilities come online, we will turn our attention to individual homes and businesses experiencing an outage.
