Democrats in Congress want finalized oil and gas leasing rule

Democrats in congress are urging the President to wrap up his administration’s proposed Onshore Oil and Gas Leasing Rule by the end of the month.

In a letter sent last week, they remained critical of the existing oil and gas leasing program, contending it “shortchanges the American public,” and locks up thousands of acres of land that could be put to other uses.”

Urging approval of the finalizaction of the Bureau of Land Management’s rule, the Democratic Senators and Representatives said, “These reforms are critical to update and improve the oil and gas leasing program to help ensure it
better supports the needs of our communities, while protecting the environment and our public lands.”
