Cole remains critical of President’s freeze on LNG port permits

In a recent Washington update, Oklahoma Congressman Tom Cole delivered another blast critical of the Biden administration’s latest “Green New Deal” gift—-the President’s freeze on new permits for LNG export terminals.

“This short-sighted decision was nothing more than a political move to placate environmentalists at the expense of the American people and our economic and national security,” wrote the Republican Representative.

He continued that it wll sacrifice American jobs, stunt economic growth and push allies directly into the hands of Russia, Iran and China.

“Additionally, devoid of reality, this policy would not even help tackle climate change. In fact, this targeting of LNG will likely make greenhouse emissions worse, a point sorely missed by the climate activists, TikTok influencers, and billionaire donors pushing this effort,” said the Congressman.

Below is part of his Washington update dealing with the President’s energy policies.

Throughout the past three years, President Biden’s energy policies have had progressives alongside the likes of dictators from Russia, Iran, and Communist China celebrating. Then, in February, the White House doubled down and gave them another “Green New Deal” gift by announcing a moratorium on pending and new application permits for liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminals across the country.

This short-sighted decision was nothing more than a political move to placate environmentalists at the expense of the American people and our economic and national security. If enacted, it would sacrifice American jobs, stunt economic growth, threaten our energy security, increase already skyrocketing energy costs on the ratepayers, and, at the same time, push our allies directly into the hands of Russia, Iran, and Communist China to keep their lights on and heat their homes.

Additionally, devoid of reality, this policy would not even help tackle climate change. In fact, this targeting of LNG will likely make greenhouse emissions worse, a point sorely missed by the climate activists, TikTok influencers, and billionaire donors pushing this effort.

This is why, on February 15th, the House voted to pass H.R. 7176, the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act, to stop this attempt at hampering the American energy industry. Specifically, this bill removes restrictions on the import and export of natural gas, as well as prohibits trade with a person or foreign nation under sanction or listed as a state sponsor of terrorism.

We could not stand by and watch as this Administration pushed this detrimental policy, and I am proud to have voted in support of the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act.
