A name change for Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers World Airport?
It might occur as the Airport Trust recently decided to consider such a move after it took a survey of nearly 6,000 people about the airport. The survey was launched last October. At the time, Tracey Hamm, a representative for the trust indicated a name change was a consideration.
News 9 TV reported the Trust indicated the results of the survey will guide members as they review possible rebranding of the airport.
“Oklahoma City continues to grow, and Will Rogers World Airport is a dynamic part of the City’s infrastructure,” Director of Airports Jeff Mulder said when the city announced the start of the survey in October 2023.
“The terminal expansion and future growth of nonstop destinations and international travel mean the time is right to revisit current branding. We’re looking forward to an update that puts our very best foot forward for visitors and residents alike.”
The airport was originally opened in 1911 as Oklahoma City Municipal Airfield. It was renamed in honor of the late Will Rogers in 1941.
