Six years after the derailment of a BNSF crude oil train spilled 160,000 tar sand oil near the town of Doon, Iowa, a lawsuit has been settled over the matter.
Landowners filed suit against BNSF asking for actual and punitive damages. They blamed the railway for the accident but an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board found speed was not a factor. The NTSB blamed it on 48 hours of heavy rain that washed out some of the rail tracks.
The settlement was recently revealed in court but details were not provided.
