Open electricity market in Lubbock might be a nightmare

Residents in Lubbock, Texas might be thinking of that old adage “Be careful what you wish for.”

For nearly a quarter of a century, they sought an open energy or electricity marketplace after being served only by Lubbock Power & Light. They finally got it, and the electric market is open….really open.

Open so much that residents can choose their source of electrical power from 30 companies and it has proved overwhelming for them. So much so that one resident questioned “Where did they all come from?”.

The Texas Tribune recently reported that if anything, the free market choices have become “daunting” and even with so many choices, the consumers might not get the low rates they thought they would get.
