Democratic Senators accuse gas companies of overcharging consumers

Five U.S. Senators, described as “progressive” accused energy companies of deceiving the public with “green” gas and overcharging customers for projects that won’t help the climate.

One of them is Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat from Massachusetts and a former Oklahoman. She and four others wrote a letter to federal regulators asking the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether the gas industry is engaged in “unfair and deceptive practices.”

The letter was revealed by The Hill and referred to the use of “certified” gas used by gas and electric utilities which Warren and the others claim also “falsely burnish their climate bona fides.” They alleged some of the gas utilities also charge premiums for gas bearing “these frequently meangingless designations.”
