Rep. Bice on deterring Chinese influence

Oklahoma Congresswoman Stephanie Bice is criticizing the Biden administration’s effort to wage what she calls a “full-scale assault” on American energy production and gas-powered automobiles.

In a column released this week, the Republican Representative said the President has taken the actions to cater to electric vehicles.

“Recently, the Federal Highway Administration has attempted to bypass “Buy American” provisions set by Congress for electric vehicle chargers. By issuing these waivers, we are hurting American producers and further empowering China, who already controls the electric vehicle sector,” she wrote.

She went on to state how the growing influence of the Chinese Communist Party not only around the world but here in the states “has been a long-standing concern within Congress. As a result, she said China’s rapid economic growth and expanding global reach “demand that we implement safeguards to protect America’s dominance.

Below is the congresswoman’s entire column:

The growing influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) across the globe and here at home has been a long-standing concern within Congress. China’s rapid economic growth and expanding global reach demand that we implement safeguards to protect America’s dominance. Over the past few years, we have witnessed efforts by China to control the mineral market, acquire American farmland, increase its energy output, create the world’s largest petroleum stockpile, and produce life-threatening fentanyl analogs. Congress must continue our efforts to counter the influence of the CCP.

One alarming aspect of this influence is the discreet acquisition of land by the Chinese Communist Party within the U.S. This poses an unacceptable and highly dangerous threat to our national security. In response, I introduced the Stop CCP Land Act, a legislative measure aimed at restricting Chinese companies from acquiring or leasing American farmland. This legislation provides safeguards to potential risks associated with CCP investment around critical infrastructure. Americans should own our land, not foreign adversaries.

Countering Chinese influence is particularly crucial in the fight against fentanyl trafficking, a crisis that has worsened under the Biden Administration, where fentanyl is the leading cause of death for those aged 18-45. China manufactures a large amount of fentanyl related analogs, which are fueling opioid-related deaths. I was pleased to see that my bill, the Disrupt Fentanyl Trafficking Act was recently signed into law. This legislation empowers the Department of Defense to take measures to weaken the power of the cartels and halt fentanyl flow into the United States.

In addition, our efforts extend beyond national security. I am also committed to protecting and promoting American businesses. Since President Biden took office, he has not only waged a full-scale assault on American energy production but also on gas-powered automobiles. He has taken these actions to cater to electric vehicles. Recently, the Federal Highway Administration has attempted to bypass “Buy American” provisions set by Congress for electric vehicle chargers. By issuing these waivers, we are hurting American producers and further empowering China, who already controls the electric vehicle sector. Last week, the House took action and passed a resolution that reaffirms the Biden Administration should prioritize American producers over our adversaries.

In the years to come, China will continue to seek to surpass America’s global dominance. In Congress, we should advocate for policies that strengthen our competitive advantages, promote American-made products, and safeguard our citizens. Our nation’s future depends on it.
