Crude oil prices remained flat in Wednesday’s trading

Crude oil prices remained nearly flat in Wednesday’s trading with Brent down and WTI up a little after China had disappointing economic growth, resulting in concerns about energy demand.

Plus, crude oil production in North Dakota has been cut in half because of extremely low temperatures.

It also proved to be another day of losses for Oklahoma energy stocks.

West Texas Intermediate crude in the US gained 16 cents to finish the day at $72.56 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Global benchmark Brent crude dropped 41 cents and closed at $77.88 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.

February natural gas fell 3 cents to $2.87 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Most Oklahoma energy stocks recorded losses for the day, including Chesapeake Energy, the firm that intends to merge with Southwestern Energy of Houston. Both companies experienced more than 2% losses for the day, on top of 5% declines recorded on Tuesday.

The Texas Energy Report showed other stocks also finished down for the day.
