US crude oil prices started 2024 with a loss and so did the global benchmark, thanks to an ease in concerns about supplies being disrupted by Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.
West Texas Intermediate crude finished down $1.27 or 1.8% to $70.38 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude closed down $1.15 or 1.5% to finish at $75.89 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
February natural gas rose 6 cents to $2.57 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Oklahoma energy stocks were mixed in Tuesday’s trading with Empire Petroleum falling 6% while Williams Cos. gained 2%.
