A major US aluminum smelter located in southeast Missouri is shutting down operations and blaming cold weather.
Magnitude 7 runs the second-large smelter in the country and notified state officials it planned to curtail operations by the end of the month.
“Due to abnormally cold weather, our operations have been severely impaired to the point where they cannot be restored while running,” the Heartland News report cited the letter from Magnitude 7 Metals Llc.
Reuters reported the firm indicated it planned to look for fresh investments and capital to restart the smelter.
