West Texas Intermediate crude slid $2.94 or 4.1% a barrel, coming to rest at $69.38 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude also tumbled, falling $2.90 or 3.8% a barrel down to $74.30 on ICE Futures Europe.
Crude prices have continued their decline over the past few weeks over worries that global supplies are swelling. Ship-tracking companies say American crude exports are close to a record 6 million barrels a day.
January natural gas fell 14 cents to $2.57 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Wednesday produced losses for most Oklahoma energy stocks such as Chesapeake Energy, Gulfport Energy, Mach Natural Resources, Matrix Services and PHX Minerals.
