Crude oil prices dropped more than 3% in Tuesday’s trading and the tumbling crude took Oklahoma energy stocks down the rocky road too.
Mixed Chinese economic data and rising OPEC exports eased concerns about tight markets.
West Texas Intermediate crude dropped $2.88 or 3.6% a barrel to settle at $77.94 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Brent crude, the global benchmark, fell $2.95 or 3.5% and finished at $82.23 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
Both WTI and Brent hit their lowest levels since July 24. It was Brent’s close below $84 a barrel for the first time since Hamas terrorists attacked Israel on Oct. 7.
Natural gas finished down 12 cents or 3.80% to close at $3.14.
It was another tough day for Oklahoma energy stocks as most endured losses including an 8% drop for Empire Petroleum and 7% for Vital Energy.
