DEQ to launch series of meetings on how to spend $3 million in climate pollution reduction

The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality plans to launch a series of meetings focused on how to use Oklahoma’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant of $3 million funded by the Biden administration’s green efforts.

Meetings will be held Tuesday, Nov. 28 in Oklahoma City and Thursday, Nov. 30 in Lawton. Other meetings will follow in December in other cities across the state. The DEQ is seeking public input and feedback on potential projects.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program in 2023 with funding from the Inflation Reduction Act. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) applied for and was awarded $3 million under Phase 1: Planning Grants.

The grant was announced in August and at the time, the DEQ said it would work with state agencies, universities, Tribal Nations and local government groups to determine projects. Some of the projects concerned infrastructure for Electric Vehicle charging, methane detection, carbon capture and workforce development centered around the reduction of greenhouse gasses.

The Oklahoma City meeting includes an option to attend virtually. Register now: www.zoomgov.com/meeting/register/vJItd-2rrzssHD401w3qbBxRAVhwTybV7l8
