Worries about a slowing global economy sent crude oil prices down 1% on Monday while Oklahoma energy stocks ended the day with a few moderate gains and some losses of up to 4%.
Investors were said to still be worried about possible U.S. interest-rate hikes while at the same time, Saudi Arabia indicated it planned to extend its voluntary cut of a million barrels of oil a day for another month to include August.
In the states, West Texas Intermediate crude finished down 85 cents or 1.2% to close at $69.79 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Brent crude, the global benchmark, finished down 76 cents or 1% to $74.65 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
August natural gas fell 9 cents to $2.71 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Oklahoma energy stocks were mixed in Monday’s trading. Gains were moderate with NGL Energy Partners recording a boost of more than 2%. Those with losses included Empire Petroleum with a 4% drop and Mammoth Energy with a 3% slip.
