Crude oil prices rose 1% on Monday with an increase in U.S. gasoline futures while some Oklahoma energy stocks saw as much as a 6% gain for the day even as one firm dropped 11%.
The price gain came as forecasts indicated an increase in oil demand in the second half of the year.
West Texas Intermediate crude for June delivery gained 44 cents or 0.6% to settle at $71.99 a barrel but WTI’s July contract gained 0.5% and closed at $72.05 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent futures rose 41 cents or 0.5% and finished the day at $75.99 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
June natural gas fell 19 cents to $2.40 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Oklahoma energy stocks experienced a mixed day in trading with one firm, Vital Energy, recording a gain of 6%. However, on the other end of the spectrum, Empire Petroleum Corp. dropped nearly 11%.
