It took five years, but the Texas Panhandle ranch once owned by the late Oklahoma-bred oilman T. Boone Pickens finally sold.
The sales price was far from the original asking amount for the 65,000 acre ranch in Roberts County, located about 85 miles northeast of Amarillo. The Mesa Vista Ranch, as it was called, last had a listing of $170 million, far below the $250 million that Pickens asked in 2017 when he put it up for sale two years before his death at the age of 91.
The ranch was a palace for Pickens, the man who gave hundreds of millions of dollars to Oklahoma State University for expansion and improvements to its football stadium and Gallagher-Iba arena.
